Remember the tubes? - 1940's story

Received an email from Pamela Hamer( nee Osmond) who was in CYN as a 7 year old in the 1940s ( the girl who woke to find a rat in her bed) who reminded us , if you were really unlucky, that tubes were put in both ends - down the throat and for enemas.

“I   I ALSO HAD THE TUBE DOWN MY THROAT EVERY FEW MONTHS JUST LIKE THE OTHER CHILDREN, I COULD`NT STRUGGLE BECAUSE I WAS STRAPPED TO MY PLASTER BED, I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE TUBE UNTIL I READ ABOUT THE CHILDREN HAVING IT,    I HAD AWFUL ENEMAS TOO, THEY WOULD INSERT A LONG TUBE  AND SOAPY WATER WAS POURED INSIDE YOU.”
